Hey folks, thanks very much for subscribing to the newsletter. I'm sending out a Friday afternoon newsletter to announce some changes. This is issue 14 1/2. It's kinda like that train platform to Hogwarts. Just as magical. Twice the fun.
What is the change?
The primary change is that I’m moving my publishing day from Monday mornings to Tuesday mornings. Is this some big brain move because the analytics say Tuesdays are better? Nope. It’s to improve my workflow.
And, yes, Tuesdays are also a historical “good day” for new content and advertising despite what the analytics may or may not say.
Also, I’m going to be adding two new tidbits.
What do you mean by workflow?
My writing process starts by selecting a newsletter topic. I am constantly jotting down ideas for newsletter topics. Most of it is complete garbage. There are some unpolished gems in the pile.
I usually choose the topic for the newsletter on a Friday afternoon. I’ll get some bullet points down, create the shape of the issue, and then let it ruminate for 24 hours. On Saturday nights I’ll begin to move some words around, write the intro and the outro, and generally get a feel for the flow of the newsletter.
Sunday nights are when the magic happens. I’ll have a cocktail and bang out the final version. Sometimes this happens quickly. Sometimes I’m still writing in the wee hours. Words are like that.
The reason that Monday mornings no longer work for publishing the newsletter is that I’m going to try the podcast function in Substack. Initially, this will be me reading the current newsletter with some additional commentary. It may evolve into something different but for now just me and the newsletter for you.
I will record the podcast on Monday morning and then publish both on Tuesday morning.
You mentioned two new tidbits. What’s the second one?
The second tidbit will be a Friday version of the newsletter. This will come out at noon every Friday. This is going to be short and sweet. It will include links to five articles that I’ve come across during the past week that I think would be of interest to you. Think of it as a curated reading list for a slow Friday afternoon.
Thanks again for your support. If you have any comments, requests, or feedback feel free to leave a comment.
We’ll see you on Tuesday morning.
